Fresh-Aire Blue Tube UV Light

Blue-Tube UV® improves indoor air quality by killing airborne mold, bacteria, viruses, and allergens. It also keeps the interior of the air system cleaner (the cooling coils in particular) which saves on costly coil cleaning services and also extents the life of the air system.

Blue-Tube UV® is a germicidal UV light system which is installed inside the central air system (furnace or air handler) for the purpose of preventing mold growth on the evaporator coils and to promote improved indoor air quality throughout the home by sterilizing airborne biological contaminants. Blue-Tube UV® is the original patented low-voltage UV light kit and is the most popular germicidal UV light product in the world. There are several models to choose from including one or two year lamps, high or low voltage power, and odor control options.

How Blue-Tube UV® Works

Blue-Tube UV is installed in the central air system where it works continuously
to fight mold and other biological contaminants in the air and on HVAC system
interior surfaces, particularly the cooling coil. For over a century scientists
have known that certainfrequencies of light have a devastating effect on
microbial life. We now know that exposure to ultraviolet light in the range of
254 NM (UV-C band) disrupts the DNA of micro-organisms thus
preventing them from reproducing, thereby effectively killing them.

Powerful UV-C light kills germ continuously in the air and on surfaces inside the air system.

• Kills Mold, Bacteria, viruses

• Cleans coils

• Saves energy

• Improves air quality

• Extends the life of your HVAC System

Coronavirus: Fresh-Aire UV efficiency against viruses, bacteria & mold*

Updated March 13, 2020

Fresh-Aire UV has been receiving inquiries regarding the effectiveness of UV disinfection systems against COVID-19 (coronavirus). We believe the best approach is to be as transparent as possible and to explain the fundamentals and variables that play a factor in inactivating coronavirus and other pathogens with UVC germicidal technologies.

Fresh-Aire UV systems are tested and validated against bacteria, viruses, mold & fungus. Fresh-Aire UV systems have been tested and achieve up to a *99.999% reduction on microorganisms. There are a number of factors that need to be addressed in order to determine efficiency, these include but not limited to, the application, such as surface or air disinfection, air velocity and temperature, recirculation rates, and dwell time, as well as the specific biological target. Fresh-Aire UV systems are installed in the HVAC unit and/or ductwork and are designed to disinfect surfaces and the air as it circulates through the ventilation system. UV dosage can be measured in several ways including microwatts per second/centimetres2 (μWs/cm2).

Every microorganism requires a specific UVC dosage for inactivation including coronavirus. UV disinfection has been employed for decades in water treatment; these microwatt values have been used for reference to gauge UVC efficiency against a large cross-section of microorganisms. While Fresh-Aire UV systems have not been specifically tested against coronavirus, they have been tested and proven effective against similar pathogens, some that require an even greater dosage for inactivation than coronavirus.

UV disinfection systems for room, surface & HVAC are an ideal proactive measure to complement filtration. Microorganisms, particularly viruses, are so small that filters are mostly ineffective. The UV systems have also been shown to reduce problematic molds and pathogens that are found within the HVAC system and drain pan that would otherwise be introduced and distributed throughout the envelope of the building.

Fresh-Aire UV systems are installed within the HVAC system and are not intended to diagnose, treat, prevent or cure any disease. The system is not a medical device.

UPDATE 2021

About the Fresh-Aire UV Germicidal UV Light System, SARS-CoV-2 Neutralization Study.

The independent testing was conducted by Innovative Bioanalysis, a CAP, CLIA, and AABB certified laboratory (CA, USA). The surface disinfection test was designed to test UVC dosage and model exposure time to UVC light necessary to neutralize the SARS-CoV-2 virus in a moving airstream under short exposure times within the HVAC or ventilation system.

Select Fresh-Aire UV residential and commercial systems achieved 96.5% – 99.99% neutralization of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in 0.5 – 3 seconds on test surfaces in a laboratory setting.

The Fresh-Aire UV Air Disinfection System (ADS) delivered a 99.99% neutralization of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within 1 second of exposure. The test was conducted within a 23” UV field surrounding the ADS UVC 254-nanometer system.

The Fresh-Aire UV APCO-X™ Disinfection System delivered a 99.99% neutralization of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within 3 seconds of exposure. The test was conducted at a distance of 6”.

The Fresh-Aire UV Blue-Tube XL™ Disinfection System delivered a 96.5% neutralization of the SARS-CoV-2 virus within 1 second of exposure. The test was conducted at a distance of 12"
